I had one guy on The Gear Page, I think, where you kind of expect people to be experts at this, ship me a smallish pedal in a huge box, badly packed with little bits of paper (funny, really), box all taped up like it would try to escape, and he paid nearly $20 (price on label). Surely there's one that will work out.Ĭlick to expand. Some people just don't do many deals, too. I just don't get these weekly threads complaining about pricing when there are literally thousands of options out there to chose from. If you a buyer truly wants to buy and the price is too high make an offer and negotiate. If it's price commensurate with those the asking price is FMV. FMV is established to a great extent by recent sales. If someone doesn't like my price they have other options and should use them and not whine about costs. I don't mark up shipping but I'm sure as hell not gonna eat it either when I'm being offered a fraction of retail for what I sell. This past summer a guitar that cost me $78 to ship w/a Reverb discount was offered by a dealer with $14 shipping. The reason for this is the bargain basement commercial rates online dealers and Amazon are getting. I don't know what all sellers are doing all I know is what I do and retail shipping costs have risen about 40%-50% and more in the last two years. $38 is the least it has cost me to ship a guitar recently and one shipping in hard case can run $60-$80 and even these prices are somewhat dated. Shipped assembled we're paying by dimensions and weight and odd size packages are far more costly to ship. So do we all but many buyers aren't up to assembling a partially disassembled guitar. I realize some folks feel everything they buy should be absolutely free, and everyone else is part of a vast conspiracy to cheat them of the free stuff they richly deserve. You can usually goose the asking price up a bit to compensate, which is (sorry) normal practice. It's a cost of doing business, and I get more business because I ship free. They stand in line at the Post Office, pay retail for postage and supplies, and, like their buyers, go online to complain about how life is so unfair.įor the record, I ship free. I'm guessing many sellers on are noobs, and don't bother to research shipping alternatives. Priority Mail covers *ALL* 50 states and the territories, no matter what anyone says. And yes, that includes HI, AK, PR, and Guam. They need some cheese to go with their whine.įWIW, you can ship most any pedal anywhere in the U.S., via USPS Priority Mail, for $6.50. You get discounts on shipping costs when you have a *free* FedEx or UPS account.įor the record, I ship free. You can go to the USPS site and order all the supplies you need and have them shipped to you totally *free*. They stand in line at the Post Office, pay retail for postage and supplies, and, like their buyers, go online to complain about how life is so unfair. Many sellers anticipate shipping increases by starting now.įWIW, you can ship most any pedal anywhere in the U.S., via USPS Priority Mail, for $6.50. Surprise surprise, shipping costs go up every year, and every year about this time is when the shippers (UPS, FedEx, USPS) announce their increases, which will go into effect in January 2018. Unfortunately, Reverb's cheapest option is the USPS Priority Mail Medium Flat-Rate Box, which starts at $11.35, and the price goes up if you want insurance and a signature, which you better have for anything that costs $200 and is otherwise being left on someone's porch. Sellers who ship through do so because it's convenient. These pages show the shipping price along with the item price. Many, but not enough, items on can be price-compared on a separate page just for that specific item. It's amazing how many seem to think they can still do this. So sellers can no longer charge 99 cents for that Klon and then charge $2000 for shipping, thinking they only pay a fee on the item price, not the postage. BOTH Reverb and eBay charge the seller a fee which is a percentage on the entire sales price, so the shipping cost is included in the price when the seller pays the selling fees.
